From the Page - To the Stage is a unique program with a tantalizing twist.
It began with a student playwriting contest and culminated with theatrical performances
that were cast and directed by adults in our community. 53 plays were written by Berkeley Heights students in grades 6-12
and were evaluated by a panel of independent judges. Eight plays were then performed
on the Governor Livingston High School Stage on December 8-9, 2006. **CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR WINNERS**

An Author In Search Of Six Characters by Ellen Monroe (Directed by Joanna Russell)
Julie, a middle school student, is working furiously to complete a tough homework assignment
…the writing of a play! Watch as she “wrestles” with her own vivid imagination
and draws inspiration from the comical interruptions of her family.

Arcadia Means Adventure by Laurel Repsha (Directed by Judith Mulder)
Arcadia, an Hispanic girl, was adopted by a loving, wealthy Caucasian family at the age of five.
As she celebrates her 15th birthday, Arcadia learns more about her past
and makes a difficult decision about her future.

The Glass Plate by Katie Tedesco, Sophie Kontur, Alyssa Nazar (Directed by Diane Corley)
A classic tale of friendship between smart, responsible Ava and her best friend Roxxi, who is always
in the “wrong place at the wrong time”. How far will Ava go to protect her friend?

It’s In Black And White Alyssa Pech (not pictured) (Directed by Jeffrey Romano)
Jaclyn, and her two best friends are in charge of planning their high school’s Semi-Formal dance.
It is the biggest event of the year and the most important thing in Jaclyn’s life, until an unfortunate event occurs.

Maximum Capacity Carl Smith (Directed by Weslee Lynch)
Michael, a recently deceased, “street wise” soul, finds himself at the Pearly Gates of Heaven
and face to face with God Himself. Entry into Heaven looks like a sure thing until Michael
is informed that Heaven is almost filled to “maximum capacity”.

The Stanislavsky Effect Stephen Yellin (Directed by Aimee Kaufman)
Alex, an awkward, timid teenager with a passion for acting, enters a Shakespearean acting school.
Watch as Alex overcomes ridicule from his classmates and helps a friend
find the inner strength to make a difficult decision.

Two Things Stand Like Stone Victoria Clark (Directed by Eve Balboni)
Kim, a teenage cynic, dreams of being accepted into the “A” crowd.
The only problem is, her best friends are definitely “not cool”.
Kim shares her inner thoughts as she decides what is truly important in life.

What To Do? Cody Berquist, Adam Sills (Directed by Eve Balboni)
Fred is an exceptional athlete and excels at both Lacrosse and Soccer.
Unfortunately, both teams play during the same season at his high school.
Fred strives to ignore strong outside pressure as he decides “what to do”.

**THANK YOU**

To the many brave and talented
teachers, parents, administrators, custodians, our Superintendent of Schools, Mayor Cohen, athletic coaches,
and other adults from our community for offering to act and help bring the eight winning plays to life.
